Oh Dear... What Can The Matter Be

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Simple Simon Met A Pieman Going To The Fair":

So sad that we have arrived at this fork in the road. I attended opening Market day and it was rather "quiet"...now I know why. I agree with John, the C of C smothers the true spirit of the farmers market. It is nauseating to hear vendors felt strong armed.
Vendors should feel joyful when they arrive to set up Saturday morning,a chance to add to their liveliehoods, make new friends, interact with their customers, have some fun. It adds value to our community. What are the consequences if one (or several)vendors choose not to sign?
It's up to the vendors now to speak out, do it as a group. There is safety in numbers. You really do not have to put up with this bullshit!

Reaction to the  conduct code  fracas at the market is what it should  be. It cannot be allowed to stand.

Yesterday I heard of two vendors having  created a successful market for their product,  moved forward already to regular retail trade within the town.

It is excellent news. It  gives the town more than a passing interest. .
When the market was being nurtured, Nigel Kean and  Chris Alexander, town manager of bylaws,  were both  on hand to make sure things ran smoothly.

The community responded Vendors sold out  every Saturday and were naturally appreciative. They became independent of the town and that's how it needed to be.

Then they were discovered, politicised and exploited.

That has to end.
